Education Objective: The overall goal is to train high-level geological talents with well-balanced moral, intellectual and physical quality that meet the demands of the socialist marketing economy. Graduates should master the fundamental theories of geology and practical ability, a solid mathematical, chemistry, and physical basis, good practical skills of computer and a foreign language, and a strong sense of innovation and scientific literacy. Some graduates can continue to pursue postgraduate studies and become specialized personnel in research institutions and universities engaged in earth science research. Undergraduates of geology can adapt to the development of earth sciences in the 21st century and the country's needs for geology professionals in resources, environment, geological hazards, territorial planning and other related fields of the national economy.


Graduation Requirements (Degree Requirements):

1Basics of Nature Science: Students should have a solid foundation of mathematics, physics, chemistry and logical thinking, and master at least one foreign language, with the ability to listen, speak, read, write and communicate. They should have basic knowledge of computer software and hardware, which enable them to use computer software for data analysis and document processing. Mastering a computer language is also compulsory.

2. Professional knowledge: Students should have mastered the basic theories of geology, can recognize common geological phenomena, and had the necessary skills to carry out investigations and researches on mineralogy, petrology, structural geology, stratigraphy, paleontology, and Quaternary geology.

3Scientific research and practical ability: Understanding the frontier of the discipline; having comprehensive analytical capabilities; mastering the basic methods and common techniques to solve scientific problems in the field of geology, and applying these methods in scientific questions in structural geology, mineralogy, petrology, stratigraphy, paleontology, and planetary science.

4. Social services: Being able to participate in the fields of prospecting, hazard geology, engineering geology, environmental geology, geochemistry, and resource exploration.

5. Professionalism: Having a strong sense of social responsibility; being able to understand policies and regulations on mineral resources exploration and environmental protection; having qualities of hard-working and pragmatic and abilities of teamwork, organizing and management.

6. Self-learning and innovation awareness: Students should be able to carry out self-directed learning according to their career development and social demands, with an awareness of lifelong learning. They should actively carry out innovative practice and exploration based on their understanding of scientific development and national goals.
