Education Objectives: The overall goal of this program is to cultivate high-level geological talents dedicated to the 21st Century development in basic geological survey, mineral resources exploration, territorial planning, environmental investigation, geological hazards prevention, who are valuable asset of national economic development. Graduates are expected to be equipped with comprehensive fundamental theories in geoscience, with solid foundation in mathematics, physics, chemistry; to master practical ability, computing application skills and English skills; to be equipped with sound literacy in science and innovation. Graduates are expected to work in mining industry, scientific institutions and higher educational institutions, as specialized talents conducting regional investigations of geology, mining and environmental and geological research both home and abroad.

Graduation Requirements:

Students are expected to

1.Foundation in Science: have a solid foundation in mathematics, physics, chemistry and geological surveying.

2. Professional knowledge: master basic theoretical knowledge and professional field work skills in regional geological survey, mineral resources exploration, environmental protection, as well as the techniques in the identification of minerals, rocks and fossils, and geochemical composition analysis and testing techniques. Students are expected to be capable of conducting regional geological survey, mineral resources exploration and environmental protection; to have professional ability in theoretical and practical research in fields of structural geology, mineral petrology, stratigraphy and paleontology etc. In addition, students are expected to be equipped with background knowledge and professional ability in management science and humanities.

3. Basic skills: master basic knowledge of computer software and hardware, programming techniques of more than one computer language. They are also expected to master skills of data, document and graph processing via computer software and apply them in academic research in fields of structural geology, mineralogy, petrology and stratigraphy, paleontology.

4.Foreign Language Proficiency: master a foreign language with proficiency in terms of listening, speaking, reading and writing to facilitate the international outreach of series of industries, including geological survey, mineral resources exploration and etc.

5. Comprehensive Quality: master policies, laws and regulations related to mineral resources exploration and environmental protection; to be equipped with the spirit of hard-working, plain-living, truth-seeking, being pragmatic; to be equipped with the ability of teamwork, organizing and management.

6. Independent Learning and Innovation Awareness: conduct active independent learning based on self-development and social development demands; to be engaged in active innovative practice and exploration based on the full understanding of discipline frontiers and demands in national development.
