奥地利萨尔茨堡大学Franz Neubauer教授学术报告

应地球科学学院曹淑云教授邀请,奥地利萨尔茨堡大学地理与地质学部主任Franz Neubauer教授来校访问并做学术报告。

报告题目及内容提要:

1Evaporite mélanges: Structure and new geochronometers for dating of low-temperature geological processes

Evaporite mélanges often form detachment respectively décollement surfaces of major extensional and contractional allochthons because of their very low shear resistance. These bodies often contain minor amounts of K-bearing sulfates (e.g., polyhalite and langbeinite), which allow, for the first time, dating of tectonic processes by the 40Ar/39Ar method. In nature, polyhalite occurs in a wide range of fabrics including mylonites. Both langbeinite and polyhalite yield reproducible, well constrained age results allow detailed resolution of the thermal history. These sulphates have a high potential to elucidate the early history of all sorts of evaporitic mélanges (and in future sedimentary processes on planet Mars).

2Significance of U-Pb zircon and Ar-Ar white mica dating in provenance studies

Currently, the booms of provenance studies are exclusively based on the application of the U-Pb zircon method. This study on recent sediments shows that the exclusive use of the U-Pb zircon method can entirely miss the currently, the detrital studies are exclusively based on the application of the U-Pb zircon method. This study shows that the exclusive use of the U-Pb zircon can entirely miss signature of orogenic processes. U-Pb zircon and 40Ar/39Ar white mica age patterns constrain entirely different tectonic processes: the U-Pb zircon ages reflect mainly magmatic and very subordinately metamorphic processes, whereas the 40Ar/39Ar white mica constrains metamorphism and post-peak exhumation after metamorphism. Consequently, these methods should be used always in conjunction.

Franz Neubauer教授,奥地利萨尔茨堡大学地理与地质学部主任,1999年当选为欧洲科学院院士,欧洲研究委员会、喀尔巴阡-巴尔干地质协会主席,欧盟科学基金(ERC)地球系统科学组(PE10)委员、奥地利地质研究委员会主任等。主要研究方向为造山带演化过程及构造热年代学,国际知名的阿尔卑斯造山带专家。与中国、伊朗、古巴、德国、捷克、匈牙利、意大利、英国、美国等研究机构保持广泛的合作与联系。分别在Geology, Earth-Science ReviewsGSA BulletinLithosJSGTectonophysicsGSA Today等国际学术刊物上发表了两百多篇重要学术论文。
